The goal of the C.A.R.E. Program at the Women’s Health office in Sanford is to help expectant mothers take control of their health and the health of their growing baby.
The program examines the barriers women face, which can prevent them from engaging in sustained prenatal care. Barriers can include depression, housing, transportation and adequate nutrition.
Pregnancy can be a joyous time in a women’s life, but also a time of escalating stress. Stressors, such as how to prepare for a baby, gain a stable living environment, or even manage the changing hormones and fluctuating emotions, can cause strain to an individual or family. The C.A.R.E Program helps patients learn how to cope with these stressors by providing compassionate support centered on the patient’s specific needs and goals.
Patients meet with C.A.R.E. Coordinators at least once a trimester to assess and identify their needs and connect them and their partners with the appropriate resources. The C.A.R.E. Coordinators also educate patients and partners and provide informative material that can be used to optimize their health during pregnancy and help them to become the parents they want to be.
For more information on the C.A.R.E Program, please contact the Sanford Women’s Health office at (207) 324-2146.
The C.A.R.E. Program is made possible by funding from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.
