We hope you will join us at the 3rd Annual “Be Healthy” 5K Run/Walk, to benefit the SMHC Center for Breast Care, held in the spring this year on Saturday, June 29 on the Eastern Trail adjacent to the medical center. Simply click here to sign up!
One in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of us know at least one woman, probably many, who have been touched or even devastated by this frightening disease. We would like to invite you to join breast cancer survivors and your community in fighting against this disease. Last year, the event doubled in participants from the previous year and we expect even more walkers and runners this year.
SMMC’s Center for Breast Care enables our friends and neighbors to get their breast cancer care right here, close to their homes, families, and friends. Funds raised through the 5K help provide extra programs and services including a specially trained nurse “navigator” who supports cancer patients and their families at every step of their journey as they make critical care decisions. In 2012, the American College of Radiology designated the SMHC Center for Breast Care a breast imaging center of excellence, and SMHC’s combined five-year survival rate for early stage breast cancer was 94.3% - exceeding the national survival rate for this group of 90.5%.
