Ways To Give

Southwest Mental Health Center serves children and adolescents in need of mental health care services. Seventy percent of our patients come from indigent families. Many others have exhausted their health insurance, have no family support and are in need of items and services not usually provided during a hospital stay. Your tax-deductible contribution of cash or goods goes directly to the patients here at SMHC.

Ways you can help

Gifts of cash

Monetary gifts provide maximum flexibility for addressing the care and treatment of the children at SMHC and for necessary operating funds. Cash gifts may also be designated for specific projects or capital needs.

Hope For Children Society donors

Member donors commit to contribute a minimum of $1,000 per year for five years.

Memorial or Honor gifts

Memorials are discretely acknowledged to the family of the deceased. Honor gifts are made in honor of a friend, work associate, or loved one to celebrate a special occasion, or just to let them know they're important.

Stock gifts

Your appreciated stock (held for more than one year) is an excellent gift. You receive a charitable tax deduction for the value of the stock at transfer and avoid capital gains tax.

Bequests and planned gifts

SMHC's long history of providing at-risk children with loving, professional care has been possible because of the many individuals who made provisions for our organization in their will or estate plan.

Your decision to make a planned gift is a personal statement about what you care about and who you are. Making a provision for Southwest Mental Health Center in your will can improve the lives of countless children, achieve your financial goals and leave a lasting legacy of generosity.

There are many ways to give -- and receive. Perhaps the simplest way to leave a legacy is to add a sentence to your will, such as:

I give and bequeath to Southwest Mental Health Center, a non-profit 501(c)(3) treatment center for children and youth, located in San Antonio, TX, the sum of $____ or ____ percentage of my residuary estate or the following described property: ______, to be used for general purposes.

There are other creative (and more technical) vehicles like CRUTs, CRATs, CLATs and Endowments that can provide lifetime income, tax savings or other benefits ... as well as help SMHC fulfill our mission far into the future.

Making a significant gift to SMHC -- or to any charity for that matter -- requires great care. Before you make any decisions, make an appointment with your trusted financial advisor. If you want assistance in finding a good attorney or some helpful information about making a will, call us at 877-676-KIDS and ask for Steve Herlich, SMHC's vice president of development. Your call is confidential, and there is no cost or obligation.
