Let's Go! York County
Let’s Go! York County is a community-based effort to promote healthy living for children, youth and families where they live, work, learn, and play. Our mission is to increase physical activity and healthy eating in York County using the Let’s Go! program model developed at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.
- 5 or more fruits and vegetables
- 2 hours or less recreational screen time
- 1 hour or more of physical activity
- 0 sugary drinks, more water
Let’s Go! York County has been promoting the 5-2-1-0 message and Let’s Go! strategies in partnership with schools, child cares, after school programs, and health care providers in our area since 2011. This has meant more nutritious meals and snacks served to kids, more active playtimes and recesses, more family mealtimes and activities, and healthier adult role models, among many other positive changes!
Over 100 York County schools, out-of-school programs, early childhood programs, and health care practices in our service region participate as official Let’s Go! sites. Let’s Go! York County is a program of Partners for Healthier Communities at Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) and is generously supported through funding from MaineHealth, Southern Maine Health Care, and United Way of York County, supplemented by funding from the Maine Center for Disease Control & Prevention. Partners for Healthier Communities (PHC) is a Healthy Maine Partnership working in collaboration with the Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC) at University of New England, the Choose to Be Healthy Coalition at York Hospital, and the York District Public Health Coordinating Council.
We are just one of many Dissemination Partners working to promote Let’s Go! among communities in Maine and New Hampshire. For more information on the statewide Let’s Go! initiative, click here!
