For the fourth consecutive year, the AVX Kyocera Foundation has provided Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) with a $10,000 donation for equipment purchase. This year’s grant will support the telemetry monitoring system for cardiac patients. Each year, SMHC provides in-hospital care to over 600 cardiac patients all of whom must have a bed equipped with sophisticated devices which constantly record heart rhythms and other key data needed by care providers. These wireless state-of-the-art interactive hallway monitors allow nurses and physicians access to critical information within steps from their patients’ bedsides.
The Foundation awards grants in support of projects that have an impact on the local communities where its corporate sponsor, AVX Corporation has operating facilities. Bob Fairey, vice president of the medical products division of AVX, based in Biddeford, presented the award; noting that "AVX values SMHC’s outstanding medical care and the Foundation's grant is intended to support your critical work."
In accepting the donation, Edward McGeachey, president and CEO of Southern Maine Health Care, commented, "We deeply appreciate the Foundation's continued generosity. This grant is a perfect fit with AVX’s work to build cardiac components used in pacemakers and our efforts to expand needed technology to care for the patients receiving those devices. My colleagues who provide cardiac care here at SMHC join me in thanking AVX/Kyocera Foundation for making it easier to provide that excellent care.”
In the past, AVX Kyocera Foundation’s generous donations have been used to support additional state-of-the-art telemetry beds, a sophisticated defibrillator for the Emergency department and technology to assist with pacemaker placement.
