The Brick Store Museum and Southern Maine Health Care are proud to present a Hands-On Nutrition Workshop for young families at the Brick Store Museum’s Program Center in Kennebunk on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at 5:30PM. Southern Maine Health Care Hospitality Services Director Mike Sabo (voted 2013’s National Food Service Director of the Year) will begin the hour-long workshop with a presentation on how nutrition has changed since the 1940s. Next, families will be split into three teams to prepare three different recipes to be shared by all attendees. The free program is made possible by Southern Maine Health Care and the Maine Community Foundation.
Sabo has created three recipes for healthy summer salads based on vegetables growing in the Museum’s Victory Garden, an outdoor extension of its current exhibition Vitamin V: How Food Fought the Second World War. Family members will use fresh, locally-grown items to produce the appealing, appetizing, and delicious offerings. At the end of the workshop, participants will bring home all the recipes discussed during the evening.
Participation in the workshop is free. Children must be accompanied by an adult. To register for the event, log onto http://www.brickstoremuseum.org/events/nutritionworkshop, or call (207) 985-4802 by August 6, 2014. Participation is limited to twenty; please register early!
