May 2015 - Apr 2015
The Southern Maine Medical Center (SMMC) Auxiliary held their Annual Meeting in June to elect their new officers and board members, show appreciation for those transitioning off of the Board, and receive information from SMHC president and CEO Ed McGeachey and Goodall Hospital president and CEO Patsy Aprile on how the Auxiliary’s efforts to support the medical center will be vital during the transition to Southern Maine Health Care.
During the meeting, they presented two longstanding Board Members, Sally Abel and Joyce Bissell, and Carolyn Walker with a small token of their deep gratitude for their service on the Board. Sally Abel was a member of the SMHC Auxiliary Board for 22 years, serving President, Nominations Committee Chair, Membership Chair, Golf Tournament Volunteer Coordinator, Blood Drives, Gift Shop and wherever she was needed. Joyce Bissell was a member of the SMHC Auxiliary Board for 17 years, serving as the Treasurer. She was instrumental in the Auxiliary’s ability to grow their investments during their generous pledge of $250,000 to SMHC’s capital campaign to build the Dorothy Walker Bush Emergency Care Pavilion and continued to record all financial transactions meticulously until the end of her term. Carolyn Walker was a member of the Board for four years, serving as President, Girls Night Out Co-Chair and Nominations Committee Chair. She brought great enthusiasm and creative ideas to the Board and remains actively involved as Co-Manager of the Gift Shop. The Auxiliary remains grateful for their enormous donations of time and talents through their years of service.
The newly-elected SMHC Auxiliary Board of Directors includes: Patricia A Bibber of Kennebunk, President; Jennifer Paige of Kennebunk, Vice President; Joan Dawson of Kennebunkport, Secretary; Caren Brophy of Biddeford; Robert Coon of Arundel; Debbie Dallaire of Biddeford; June Doherty of Kennebunk; Carmen Doliber of Arundel; Mary Anne Ferazzi of Ocean Park; Joan Gordon of Kennebunk; Zaffie Hadiaris of Saco; Mimi Ingalls of Alfred; Joanne Landry of Saco; Denise Laroche of Alfred; Suzanne Madore of Arundel; Fran Morin of Biddeford; and ad hoc members Karen Chasse of Dayton; Melissa Nadeau of Saco; and Carolyn Walker of Kennebunk.
The SMHC Auxiliary is currently planning their next two major fundraisers and invites the community to join in their efforts to support healthcare close to home. The SMHC Auxiliary Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, September 10 at Dunegrass Country Club. Teams and sponsorships are still available with the proceeds helping the Cancer Care and Pediatric Asthma programs. The SMHC Auxiliary Tree of Life campaign will take place in November culminating with a tree lighting celebration on Wednesday, December 4 in SMHC’s Main Lobby. We urge our neighbors to sponsor a light in honor or memory of an SMHC caregiver or your loved ones. All the proceeds from this year’s campaign will support lifesaving services in the Emergency Department. For more information on these fundraisers, please call the SMHC Development Office at (207) 283-7238.
