General Surgeon Douglas Burka, MD, of SMHC PrimeCare Surgery, will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) including medical treatments and advances in modern surgery.
The Basics of Varicose Veins: What You Should Know - November 7, 6 - 7pm
More than 80 million Americans suffer from venous disease, including varicose and spider veins. Venous disease is a progressive disease that is not curable. Join Vascular and Interventional Radiologist Joseph Gerding, MD, of Spectrum Medical Group and SMHC’s Vascular Center, to learn how treatment can stop the progression of venous disease and its complications. Modern treatments are performed in an office with local anesthesia, and most individuals are able to return to work the next day.
Eating Well for the Holidays - November 14, 6 - 7:30pm
Did you know that the average person will gain 7-12 pounds during the holiday season? For those managing Diabetes the holidays can also bring additional health risks, such as increased blood sugar. Diabetes Educator, Merle Westbrook, ANP, CDE, of SMHC PrimeCare Internal Medicine, will lead the discussion focusing on self-management skills for the diabetic population and maintaining control of blood sugar over the holidays including nutrition, exercise, alcohol, and stress. Come learn strategies for avoiding this “holiday trap”!
All presentations take place at SMHC’s main campus and include light refreshments. Pre-registration is required by calling 283-7988. Seats are limited and, although they will take registrations up to the day of the event, SMHC recommends calling early.
