A hospital volunteer will deliver mail to your room as soon as possible after it comes into one of our mailrooms. If you have already left SMHC, we will immediately forward your mail to your home. The volunteer will also be happy to take your stamped outgoing mail to the mailroom. Stamps can be purchased in Biddeford at The Gift Shop in the Main Lobby.
ONLINE GREETING CARDS: SMHC has made it easy for your family and friends to send their well-wishes using our online greeting card service, click here to access. A volunteer will bring the printed card to the patient as soon as possible.
PATIENT BELONGINGS: Patients and visitors are responsible for all personal belongings. SMHC is not responsible for replacing lost or misplaced items, so we recommend that you bring only essential items to the hospital.
Please leave all valuables at home or send them home with a family member or friend upon admission to the hospital. Valuables include jewelry, watches, cash, credit cards, wallet, purse, camera, cell phone, laptop, or any other item that would be considered a loss if misplaced.
If family members are not present, valuable items should be given to the nursing staff to be secured in a valuables envelope and locked in the safe; however, given the size of the safe only small items can be accepted for storage in this manner. Please do not keep valuables at the bedside.
We recognize that some items will be necessary for you to keep with you during your stay, such as dentures, hearing aids and eyeglasses. Our staff will work with you to help keep these items secure during your stay. Please avoid placing these items on your meal trays, under pillows, on the sheets, or any place where they may be accidentally discarded or lost.
Book Cart – Biddeford Medical Center
We offer a book cart stocked with donated books and magazines for your reading pleasure. A volunteer will bring the cart to your room. Feel free to choose any book or magazine you would like to keep. If you miss the cart and would like some reading material, please call Volunteer Services at 283-7225, and a volunteer will bring the cart to your room as soon as possible.
