Cognitive Rehabilitation

Cognition is our ability to pay attention to, begin, plan, organize, sequence, adapt to, problem solve, think and act strategically and stay on target until a chosen task is completed. We often begin to notice difficulty with these processes in novel and multistep activities involving language, social skills functioning and daily living tasks such as cooking, paying bills, driving, and managing medications.

Speech Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists provide assessment and treatment for cognitive difficulties with a physician referral.

Diagnoses benefiting from these services are:

  • Mild traumatic brain injury/concussion
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Dementia
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Stroke
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Psychiatric disorders
  • Attention deficit disorder
  • Autism
  • Cancer survivors

Following evaluation both services will provide

  • Individuals and their caregivers information on ways to tap into areas of strength, provide support and alter activities to meet quality of life needs, and
  • Teach Individuals  with skills and strategies for memory impairment, attention impairment, and executive function impairment in their areas of professional expertise

Occupational Therapists will also work with individuals with visual spatial impairments such as visual inattention and neglect
