Lynn Hanscomb: My journey began in March of 2008 - I saw a picture of myself and didn't realize that it was me, that I had gotten so big and unhealthy. At that point I realized as a single mother I needed to step up and take back control of my life, for myself and my family.
In 2008 I learned that Dr Carroll had brought the Lap-band to SMHC. I went to my first informational session that April, got my application and sat through my first pre-op support group meeting. I was very impressed with everything that I had seen and learned that night. I took some time to weigh the pros, cons, and which would better fit into my life of the two types of surgeries and decided that the Lap-Band was the better choice for me. I submitted my application and the rest is history.
This was one of the best decisions I have every made, because it gave me back my life. Not only am I able to do more activities, I want to do them! But one important thing to remember is: Surgery is not a cure. It is a tool to help you achieve a healthy lifestyle. I will be hitting my 2-year anniversary on July 14, 2010 and have maintained a 90lb weight loss. Many thanks to Dr Carroll, Linda and the Gastric Team for helping me regain my life.
